What to do in Granada / Re: Guided Tours of the Alhambra - Which is the best?
« Last post by John on October 22, 2015, 12:48:48 AM »
A much cheaper and probably better option than a private guide is the audio guide.
For 4 euros you can hire a small audio device that plays commentaries as you go around.

There are about 40 numbered points at the Alhambra and when you press the number on your MP3 player device you can hear a commentary.
The production quality is high and it is just as good if not better than a real human.
You can get them from the information desk next to the ticket windows.
You have to leave your passport as security.

If you are a real cheapskate you can eavesdrop on other tour guides.
I do this occasionaly, some of the guides are good and some are very bad.

There is an excellent Virtual Walking tour of the Alhambra.  Click here

The hire company sometimes charge an 'admin' fee of around 25 euros on top of the fine.
If you don't pay the fine you will not be able to hire a car with the same company again.

You can only easily avoid paying if you are not a Spanish resident.
If you are a resident they may be able to "embargar" your bank account.

If you are not a Spanish resident then it is easier not to pay.
To avoid paying you will have to cancel your card, however this  may be inconvenient.
Once the money has gone out it may be hard to reclaim especially as the offense will be documented with photos so if you are going down that route it may be best to block your card straight away.

The best thing to do is not get a fine in the first place.
Apparently Granada council earn over 30 000 euros per day in traffic fines.

If you see any big yellow sign in Granada with the word "prohibido" on it don't go down that street.

By the way:  the Guardia Civil set up many radar traps in order to earn extra income from speeding motorists so when in Spain always drive within the speed limit.  Especially when the speed goes down from 80 to 60 around traffic junctions.

I have received a traffic fine from when I was in Granada.
My details have been passed to the police by the car hire company.

Will I have to pay the fine?

Can I just ignore this letter and cancel my credit card?

What to do in Granada / Having problems getting tickets for the Alhambra
« Last post by Steven Wellington on August 04, 2015, 07:37:49 AM »
If you have problems buying tickets for the Alhambra here are some idea.

1.
Just keep trying to buy a normal ticket. There are cancellations etc that allow new  possibilities. Blocks of tickets are bought by agencies and unsold tickets are released back to the public.

https://granadainfo.com/alhambra/advance.htm

2.
Buy the bono turistico. A multi ticket package that includes the Alhambra.
https://granadainfo.com/alhambra/bono.htm

3.
Ask your hotel to buy the tickets for you eg (this hotel)
https://booking.com/hotel/es/santa-isabel-la-real.en-gb.html?aid=329282

4.
Get a guided tour which includes tickets

There are 2 guided tour links here

Miscellaneous / Re: Place to do Laundry in Granada
« Last post by Steven Wellington on July 31, 2015, 03:17:18 AM »
There are a couple of laundry places (laundromats) in Granada for example

Tintorerías Niágara.
They charge 5.80 euros for a 6kg load.

General info:
https://tintoreriasniagara.com/servicios.html

They have several branches in Granada
https://tintoreriasniagara.com/tiendas.html

The laundry service in Hotels is very expensive.
Unless you have money to waste it may be a good idea to use alternative methods.

Many short term rental apartments have washing machines included in the price so
washing your clothes is free.

If you visit this page
https://granadainfo.com/apartments.htm
Click on the washing machine box and you will only see places with washing machine.

Most places don't have clothes driers because it is so easy to dry the clothes in the sun.

For example.
Boabdil house has a Bosch washing machine with a 1000 rpm spin and you can hang your clothes up with views of the Alhambra.
